Live in France and Work on the Internet Perhaps

Many of the guests we have staying with us in Villa Roquette use the Internet as part of their lifstyle and making a living.

They are able to travel and stay away from their main home for weeks, or months, at a time and work online. This is because their work uses their talents with their spoken and writing skills and does not need them permanently on-site to do a specific job.  It is not the Internet which has created the work, but that the Internet has simplified the method of delivery.

In the last fifteen years the Internet has created many jobs and opportunities, but I do not see many areas where the Internet has created new ways of making money, just variation on the old scams, multi-level schemes and gimmicks for delivering gratification.

Some people have made money from the websites themselves, design, hosting, optimising, applications etc etc – but these people would have sold a different snake-oil or written advertising for newspapers in other times. Most of us are no richer due to the Internet.

I had this email exchange today about coming to live in France and making a living from the Internet – in essence my reply says, if you are making a living in the USA from the Internet then, perhaps, you can maintain this in France.

Tony,

……..I wondered if you knew what sort of businesses those  people have on the Internet. Would you mind sharing,  I’ve often thought that would be a perfect job, because you could llive anywhere.

Thanks again and all my best to your life style and family!!

Hello Elizabeth,

The only people I know who make use of the Internet to earn their living, and thus be able to live almost anywhere, are those people who are self employed, (most always have been self employed) and supply a service which rarely needs direct meetings. Most Internet “businesses” are services sold to other Internet users, design, software, site development etc – the market is flooded with people doing this – the good ones make a living and have many years of experience – most dabble and fail in a few months.

Other work using the Internet is usually Internet related work or types of journalism – people translating technical manuals, software code writers (although only specific types of projects) – selling your own life services or tuition, the Internet makes this more convenient but is no more than a delivery and communications tool – people worked from home this way before computers..

It is easier to say what it is not – definitely it is not possible to make a living through the Internet from the offers the Internet announces through Facebook etc – these are either multi-level marketing scams or ‘affiliate’ deals – the only people making money from this are the organisers of these frauds.

If you can make money sitting writing at your kitchen table, then the Internet will make it more convenient for you, but there are no magic money making schemes that are unique to the Internet.

If you have a passion which you can see a market for – then this may make it possible for independence.

What is your normal work, can you do this on the Internet already? If so then it may also work for you in France

Hope this helps

Tony

Property Sales in France and Fractional Ownership

In May this year I was planning to start offering property for sale through a very reputable agency in the South of France – Coast and Country – who I have worked with before and find completely reliable and honest.

If you have followed some of my blogs in the past, you may know that I have a very low opinion of most estate-agents on France and especially some of the rogues and rascals I have found in Pezenas. Unfortunately the few honest and reliable agents are going out of business in this area, leaving mostly the rascals,  so if I am to help people find homes I must start listing properties and selecting them myself.

I have been waiting for the agency to get a new website operating for me – I have been waiting  five months now, so it is time to give up on that plan and make my own sites for them again. I have started on this at SouthernFrance , a site I planned to use as my newsletter and blog archives, but this will be put to better use for property.

I have also restarted another website which was once the definitive site for Fractional Ownership of property in France at HarmonyOwnership – there is a lot of work to do on both sites, but I have a list of properties to add and will be getting out from next week to get the listings on.

A lot of guests staying with us at Villa Roquette are looking at property buy – I help a lot with the planning and save a lot of time by advising on services in villages, transport, accommodation and the value of the properties they are looking at – several guests have purchased property in Languedoc this year and have become friends – in other cases I have been able to show the problems and point out the lies told to them about the resources.

In one happy instance I  could show, through the plans and deeds, that they in fact owned property next to their home they did not realize they had purchased.

This is all part of the service for our guests – so if you are thinking of buying property in Languedoc, particularly in the Herault stay with us and perhaps I can help you realise your dreams.

Information Websites About Languedoc Sud de France

On our website at Villa Roquette we give information about activities and events happening near us  – if you stay with us we can help you find fairs, markets, exhibitions, carnivals plus the best places for golf, fishing, cycling, walking and many many other activities, or just the best beaches and bars.

A new initiative locally is for the wine makers to offer special events, many are organising walks in the beautiful countryside with story tellers, picnics and plenty of wine.

I replied to a recent mail from a reader of our newsletter about other sources of information….

Tony,
We always enjoy your e-mails and and the links that they take us to.   We have corresponded before and you have been very helpful with many of our questions.   We hope that on this next trip to France,we will have time to stop in to say hello and meet in person.

My question for this trip to France  is regarding an article and U-tube video you posted in June – Balades in Languedoc.  That function was offered up only in July and August, but looked like a great way to spend a day.   Are you aware of anything like that that may be available to participate in the last week of October?   This trip we hope to have some time to just enjoy the French life.

Hi Gary and Bonnie

Do call round when you are here and share a bottle 🙂

Some vignerons do these balade I mentioned in my post at http://www.twiku.com/balade-in-languedoc/ in the early summer when there is not a lot happening in the fields, but after late July they don’t have time. By October it is considered too chilly and the tourist season is over so nothing much happens – however by late October all the work is done and the new wines are getting produced, most of the cave cooperative have a big open day, clebration and booze-up.  If you can stand up to an hour of endless speeeches, you can then test lots of the latest booze and often get music food and music – some charge a few euro, many are free.

You can tell when the speeches are getting to the end when the local pensioners start edging quietly to the groaning boards of wine and food – make for the bottles that are popular with the chaps with florid noses, this is the good stuff.

Information about local events can be tricky to find – there are a few publications and leaflets, most are available from your local mairie – other information locally online is from ……..
